Purchased a new Canon printer and eager to get printing? If you’d like to skip the manual and get printing fast, then we’re happy to get you started! The first step is to ensure you have all of the necessary parts to print, including printer paper or photo paper if you have a Canon photo printer, ink cartridges, your computer or laptop, and a printer cable. Canon often does not supply a USB cable with your printer, but not to worry, you can easily order one at 123ink.
Before you can install your Canon printer, it is important to make sure your printer is unpacked and prepared for the next step. Start by removing all protective packaging from the printer. Take a good look at the printer itself as it often contains more protective material that is necessary to remove.
Then you can go ahead and plug your printer in, load the paper onto the tray and place your ink cartridges securely in your Canon printer. Once you’ve turned on your Canon printer, you will be prompted to select a language. Go ahead and choose your desired language on the printer screen.
Remove your ink cartridges from their packaging and check which colour you are going to install. Open the door on your printer that contains the slot for your ink cartridges. This door will often have a protective lever to open it as it is important that it is closed correctly and does not open during printing. Ensure to carefully open and close this door without forcing it. It is important to ensure that the correct colour ink cartridge is inserted into the correct slot. Once you are sure, you can remove the protective strip from the ink cartridges that prevents the ink from leaking into the package and insert the cartridges. Once all of the colours have been inserted into the correct slots, you can close the door. Now you can turn on your printer, and if the printer asks, select the desired language.
Most Canon printers come with only enough ink to print test pages. You can find suitable ink cartridges for your Canon printer on the Canon ink cartridges page. Here, you can easily search by your printer model number or by your ink cartridge number if you already know it. You will also find 123ink branded ink cartridges here that are suitable for your Canon printer, and will often save you money.
Now that you have covered all of the manual preparation, it’s time to download the printer’s software onto your computer or laptop. You can find the correct software for your printer type on the Canon website. Simply type your printer model into the search bar or locate your printer model series and number on the page. Then choose the 'operating system' you are working with and download the software. There will be a recommended download based on your computer’s operating system. Click on download and open the file so that the installation can be completed.
Many Canon printers can be set up to print wirelessly from your computer or laptop. To do this, select the ‘settings’ option on the printer’s screen and then go to ‘WiFi settings’. Tap the WiFi icon, and select your network or SSID. Then enter your WiFi password to connect your Canon printer to the WiFi network.
To print from your mobile phone, simply download the Canon PRINT app on your smartphone.
Open the app and tap the printer sign. Make sure your phone is connected to the Wi-Fi network and that the Bluetooth setting is turned on. Then choose the 'Add/Switch' option and register your printer. Now connect your printer to your phone via WiFi. You are now ready to print documents or images from your phone using your Canon printer. Anyone in your household or office can link the printer to their phone with this app, so it makes sharing the printer simple.
Now that you’ve completed the installation process, there’s only one thing left to do-print! If your printer does not display when printing, you can choose the option to ‘add printer’ in Microsoft Word, or ‘show more’ in Google Chrome. Then simply add your printer to the list so that you can start printing with your new Canon printer.
